Hi all,

how often should I be changing the tip in my mig - or is it just a case of replacing them when they are knackered?

Had the same one in for about a year now - although it only gets on and off use. Not gone through a bottle of pub gas yet if that's any measure of how much welding has been done?

I change mine when I weld the wire to it....... Then I file it down and clean it up and re-use it

They last a long while when I don't

I know they call them consumables so I bought loads of them and I still have a few

I'm sure soemone else will tell us both how to tell when they need repalcement

After a while they may wear inside and the wire tends to wobble a bit. It also starts getting a poor connection.

I get "-H' tips for mine if I can find them. Supposedly plated with tungsten on the inside to make them not wear.

I also swap them out when they get all black or the wire starts sticking. Then clean them up.

I have only ruined a few. Actually had one bend due to heat.

i managed to shag 10 in one day once. pretty sure it was a case of bad settings, wrong wire and user error.
but have since changed to bigger wire and bit more practice and have managed to retain the same tip for a couple of welding sessions now. woohoo
