Mig Stutter

Using a migatronic with a binzel torch. when welding flat and keeping the torch steady i get nice runs with no stutter, however as soon as i tilt or move the torch it stutters like crazy.

I can weld flat no problems, but using the torch on vertical welds etc is impossible.

Had the liner replaced today and made a difference to begin with and started to return back to stuttering after half an hour of welding.

i am welding on max, stutter still continues after cooling down.

Wire feeds with no pauses etc. Tip is fine and a tried a wide range of wire speed settings

Could there be a fault with the torch swivel part???? or is there anything else on the torch that would cause this, dont want to waste money on a new torch if its not going to fix it.

I would suspect a loose cable connection inside the torch. When at one angle the contact may be good, so trigger signal constant, welding constant.

When moved quickly or at a different angle contact may be broken momentarily, leading to interrupted signal and so stuttering.

It may be loose but touching, so look carefully.

Just a guess, but worth stripping out the torch and making a careful check.

Thanks good thinking, now that you mention it i have had intermitent stops. At the time I put that down to a bad earth....could be what causing the stutter.

thinking about it, would a loose wire cause the current to switch off aswell. its similar to when the wire sticks in the tip and the wire starts to ball up and the power is constant.

Binzel torches are pretty reliable, all of our production welders use them. The trigger wires are connected with spades onto trigger, only had one break in about 5 years.

Pic below shows the spade connectors, but I recommend you open the torch instead of melting your way in
