My mig was behaving wierd the other day and the shroud was live, and shorting on the work and causing a wierd green arc and sooty porus welds but only intermittantly.
Its a cheapish chinese inverter welder but seems pretty decent other than the shroud / arc issue which i hope are the same issue.
Anyway so i took apart the torch to check the insulator but it seems to not be present the swan neck is live and only insulation for shroud is in the shroud, is this the same on other euro torches?
Is it worth buying a different torch? If so what is the roles royce of mig torches?
Why are shrouds metal anyway?, i could turn an adaptor on the lathe to use a ceramic tig shroud is that worth doing?
Why are so many shrouds using the sping push type connection i get the splatter / removal issue but its annoying when the shroud can move close to the tip.
Thanks
