MIG Recommendations

Hi

I need to do some restoration work on my VW camper van. I have read the page where it suggests what to look for in a MIG and I guess I will look at something like a MIG 180.

The question is WHICH ONE?

I am not too bothered about the price, within reason but want something that will give a nice weld for a novice.

I did do some welding some years ago with a Draper welder and the feeder kept getting jammed and you couldn't replace the head. So I am looking for something that has a little more quality 'under the hood' so to speak.

Anyone's help would be most appreciated.

all depends on budget budy .i dont no much about 240v migs only ever had 2 my 3rd is on its way. just purchsed lorch 252 every1 seems to rate them.
my thermal arc was exelent had it years trouble free .got stolen.
i got little rtech 160 for a container job i was doing .not bad on light stuff

Welcome to the forum, the Clarke hobby range has a good reputation so the 151 or 160 models would cope with what you want to do.
Or if you can afford it, look at a Portamig 185, check out Weldequip shop at top of page.

Thank you for your time, I hadn't realised yesterday that there was a link to the shop at the top of the page!

The Portamig 185 does indeed look like it could fit the bill, not too expensive and British made is a bonus.

the portamig is probably a good option, also look at the little inverters from esab and kemppi, for working on a camper and similar stuff something like the esab caddy 160 would be very handy, easy to move about and get close to where you are working, and also not too expensive.
