SO: Please keep at least a mile within the topic of the original opening post and save me a massive clean up..Thanks.
I can put myself in that category!!! I wasn't working for a car garage, I'm no mechanic but the days of the Vauxhall cavs, astra, and the older fords were the days that saw me on my knees With lots of side lines. That's not a hobby as I didn't have a desire to do it. I was skint and earned half decent money for it. The early to mid ninetys were great for car welding sidelines. Did some chassis section Patching and replacement on a couple old defenders too.The OP asked about a MIG machine suitable for vehicle body repair work. How many of those replying have had the misfortune of doing that sort of work as a job rather than a hobby I wonder?
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum so go easy. I am wanting to purchase my first MIG welding set and start to learn to weld.
Just wondered if anyone could recommend a good welder set to begin with. I've was looking to spend around £200-£300 on the set alone and wondered if anyone had any good recommendations. One welder I have been looking at is a Sealey supermig 150, has anyone any experience with this brand. My end goal is to be able to repair car body work when practised enough and poss fabricating simple mild steel log type exhaust manifolds. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Seeing as the op probably has all the info required and the thread will be petering out I will answer that:The OP asked about a MIG machine suitable for vehicle body repair work. How many of those replying have had the misfortune of doing that sort of work as a job rather than a hobby I wonder?

I'm in a better position now and honestly no interest in doing it any more. Why do you ask.
Never done a beetle but heard from those that have and the original campers that they are never ending.

These days done nicely those old vws are worth a couple quid.
Nice choice. Some bench progress pics would be good to see. Good luck.Ordered the GYS 160 from weldequip.
