Here's the penetration I have to achieve for watertight welds on my boilers

Watch your starts and stops. Grind a vee or a bevel if you can before welding. After welding fill with water to check for leaks as you may find some damp spots or pin holes. If so grind back out and reweld don't weld over bad weld. I do this everyday and yes somedays i have a leaker...Bob

Thanks for advice but I do this every day as well for the past 22 years. I was showing someone who asked the penetration you need as he wasnt sure of what gap to leave on 6mm
