Mig or tig

I would be asking what the bearing is made from especially as its a steering component, if its a hardened steel then it may not be weldable at all, if they are both mild steel then I would tig them.

if your mig looks better than your tig, i'd Mig it, otherwise it'd tig it

Are you meaning to actually weld the outer bearing race or do you mean weld the housing to what looks to be a similar thickness pillow to the right? If the latter then bear in mind you could get distortion so the housing for the bearing race will end up elliptical and so may not press back in if the internal surface has already been machined.

I will grab some pics tomorrow but this was a kit, a weld in bearing housing, bearing and circlip I made the outer part which is mild steel.

Also one other question, what size mig do you have and what thickness is the materials that requires welding, nowt like underpowered mig set to give a cold weld...

Its a bearing housing so the less heat the better = Tig

I have the lorch m pro so mig power aint a issue. I am like bob with it though. Lol.

Mild steel zinc plated, so just clean off the zinc where its going to be welded and weld em in,
Mig or tig will be fine, whatever you feel most confident with.

So could you not make another cup to match, with a hole for rod to go through and clear, then just tack the two cups together, that way nil heat affect on bearing ?
