Thats bracket racing,I struggle to get my head around drag racing rules. I've always thought race cars should go as fast as possible but in drag racing it's time brackets they aim for?
I'm personally not a great fan of it,
basically, you build a car thats fits within a certain time bracket and try to repeat that time on every run,
A combination of closest to your dialled in time and start line reaction time matters, unfortunately it pretty much stops the development of the car from the first run,
The car i showed is built for a class called Street Eliminator,
Theres a few rules regarding tyres, exhaust, fuel and it must have an mot certificate,
theres also a street worthiness test at each event, ie does it overhead on normal road use,
other than that it green light/first to the finish,
when the class started times were around 10 seconds@140mph,
Now they're down to the low 7 second mark@ over 200mph,
Thats development
