hi all, i'm back again to pick some brains! just went to use my 180 monomig and she doesnt want to do anything . as i pull the eurotorch trigger it just give a delayed action relay operation sound and then nothing. i have power at the main imput connector . power up to the multi connector that gives the various levels of amperage ie 1-6 but no gas valve operation or wire feed operation. any ideas please.regards, stanman

The "relay" you mentioned in post 1, was that a small relay OR the main contactor ?

You can eliminate the torch by disconnecting it and using a piece of wire or paper clip bridge the two very small holes (electrical connections) this is what the trigger does. It should operate as though you have pulled the trigger each time they are shorted.

after much wiggling and plenty of contact cleaner the trigger action is functioning and it allows the gas valve to open and shut correctly. there is still no wire feed. the motor is not turning at all. i have taken off and cleaned the two wire connectors going into the motor but still nothing how many volts should there be at the wires and is this AC orDC voltage there? regards,stanman

The wire feed motor is a DC motor (usually 24V) When the wire feed control is in the middle of it's range it should have about 10 to 13 (ish) volts going to it. If you want to test the motor then make sure you disconnect bot the wires from motor before trying say a car battery (12v) or car battery charger either of which should operate the motor showing it is good (which I recon it will be)

But is the relay you mentioned as in this first pic (which is the contactor)
Second pic shows what MIGHT BE a fuse ??
Can you see if the gas valve is marked as a 240V device ?

When you refer to "phase" weld I assume you refer to the switch having three settings SPOT, STITCH and NORMAL (phase) If so the spot and stitch will be largely controlled by the pcb but a lot of it should be bypassed by setting to the NORMAL position. (pcb fault, MAYBE). Still yet to look back at 2011

Stan having looked back at this machines history (2012) you posted a very similar problem with it this seamed to clear it's self (following your going over connections and even warming up the contactor (240v + contactor cleaner + conductive dust? = flames !!!
) I believe you still have a connection issue OR TWO.
Check the following with THE POWER OFF AND UNPLUGED
1) The D plug that goes onto the pcb may be loose, try pulling plug out and reseating.
2) ITEM A on pic Some of the screw terminals may be loose OR not bearing down correctly onto the wire OR wire/clamp may be corroded. This can be on the power selector switch (causing your "no power" on 1, 2, 3) and also on the contactor connections (your Item 106/relay). If you loosen ONE at a time, check for corrosion and refit then you should not get them mixed up. Note where there are two wires going under one clamp they don't always clamp correctly on BOTH wires causing intermittent contact.
3) ITEM B on pic The small rivet of the connection strip on the mode selector switch may have come loose (wriggle strip to see if loose).
4) ITEM C on pic Where the wire hooks through the strip of mode selector switch, there may be a dry solder joint. Wriggle as above and or reflow solder.
5) ITEM D on pic There may be a dry joint on the pcb. This can take quite some time to locate and it is sometimes easier to reflow as many solder joints as you can see ! (you may need to remove pcb to do this).
A good sized soldering iron can work wonders Just take you time to work through as many connections as you can.
Is there a part number on the pcb or the metal plate/heatsink ?

Well the switch is slightly different than I expected BUT the C in pic still applies. You WILL need to do some soldering !!! You are able to weld so soldering should be a doddle
