Greetings from the USA. I FINALLY found a welding forum that invites all levels of skill. Thank you.
I am a noob to MIG and a very novice at stick and gas, even though Ive done both of them off and on (mostly off) for 20 years. I am a homeowener/hobbyist. I suspect I will be welding 3/16 and less. Minor repairs, light fabrication of gizmos etc. My wife bought me a Lincoln WeldPak 140 for my birthday. It came with a .030-.045 knurled feed roller and 2 non knurled rollers .025 and .035. I picked up an 80cf bottle of 84/16 steelmix gas.
So now my questions.
My kids want to get me a couple of spools of welding wire for xmas and I am trying to figure out what to put on the list. Small or large, flux cored or solid (or one of each) What diameters and types. I suppose it's hard, not knowing exactly what I am going to weld, but I would guess 50/50 rusty angle iron type stuff on a utility trailer, clean mild steel that I can buy from Home depot, and other times thinner sheet metal for auto body and or exhaust pipe type work.
The welder came with a 2 lb (.9 kg) spool of L-56 .023 solid wire, and a 1 lb (.45 kg) spool of NR211 .035 flux core wire.
Any suggestions you might have would be much appreciated.
Thanks for any input you can provide...
