Seriously though. With no disrespect at all its not the best GMAW method for joint soundness. The pulsing on and off even if it's brief or close together will vary pen and fusion depths. It's always better to whack things up and bang it down.
For absolute soundness with GMAW run on run off plates are even better to eliminate cold starts and crators but that's more for serious critical stuff.

I would agree.
Yes
Mig can be and is strong , but it's very easy to make a weld that can to the casual observer look fine but is just sitting on top.
Tig much harder to make a good looking but weak weld.
MMA again not easy to make a good looking poor weld.

Of the 3 i would always treat mig with the most suspicion if assessing a weld in a critical situation.
I have personally never come across a tig weld in a structural situation that is purely decorative.
But have seen many a product that has failed a destructive test that initially looked good.

There is definitely a trend to produce an aesthetically nice looking weld over a quality joint.

IMO each welding prosses is it's own and should not try and pretend to be any other.

anyone who can weld will be abel to spot the differance, the stack of dimes with a mig look boils my ****. i see it so often on rollcages ect and you can usally spot the line of shrinkage craters.

i much prefer so see a good MMA,or mig weld rather than someone trying to make ether look like a tig weld, at best it'll look nasty

hes only going for mig like tig purely for decoration, i disagree that it will look nasty (maybe in comparison to an actual bead from a tig) however done properly a mig like tig bead can be very aesthetically pleasing & more than good enough for decorational purpose

The mig like tig debate has been going on for ages. A lot of the desert racers use it a lot on there cars/trucks. It must be reasonably strong for them as they put there motors through some tough times.

Get the feeling that its very easy to watch a You Tube vid showing something such as MLT, and to get the idea that actually doing MLT yourself is almost as easy as watching the vid?

Seems to me though its something which is pretty much completely pointless, and certainly not worth spending a fair amount of time and money on hours of practice, to get good enough to produce reasonable results.

Think BB is possibly right to bail out on this one, as there are probably other things which would be a much more productive use of his time and money.
