Hi Guys, I'm a fairly experienced MMA welder trying to learn MIG. I've a big project using 3mm x 100 x 100 box section and I'd like to use MIG, but struggling with the bead sitting too high on most welds. The material welds fine with MMA with GYS 2.5 6013's @ 65A and Force set at 5 /10....I get a nice concave bead on fillets. I can take it up to 90A on 3.2's with a similar bead albeit laying down more metal.
However, using MIG with 0.8 wire 18% Argon on a synergy machine set at 125A and 19v the beads sit really high. I've tried with the settings at 125A and 20V, 110A and around 19.4V, but nothing seems to make much difference. I've tried with the inductance set at -5, 0, and +5 it changes the bead slightly but not much. So I'm thinking that it's either my technique or maybe the gas. I prefer to pull, but even using push doesn't change things much.
I've tried destruction tests on the MIG and MMA welds and they all stand up to a good hammering without any failures....it's simply the beads on the MIG welds that look very high.
Any ideas please?
