So I'm rapidly approaching 40 and thought now is a good time to learn to weld. Yes I know, I'm that guy who can't afford a porsche or a younger replacement for the wife.
I've read a few of the existing threads and get the sense that there is a wealth of experience here. However I'm also sure that the "new welder" thread is unlikely to draw much interest from experienced welders.
But, if you don't ask, you don't get!
Generally interested on feed back on my first attempts.
I'm using a small DC Inverter with 2.5mm 6013 rods on 3mm mild steel box.
First 10 beads @ 90-80A
Second 10 beads @ 60-70A
Shocking I know! But I didn't die so that was a bonus!
I'm thinking that my welder's digital read-out is off as I look to be getting better results at an amperage which feels too low. Bead hight is roughly 2mm so other than the 2 blowouts I don't know where I am with penetration.
Thank you in advance for any advice and please feel free to ridicule.
