Microsoft Office and Project issue

Calling IT people, this one has me stumped

I've managed to secure a few weeks of site management work, the company provided me with a download link and product key for Project 2019 so I could get up to speed before work starts.

I clicked the link, downloaded the installer and got this error

First thought was just use Project 2016, but for some reason no one can explain I just can't, has to be 2019.

Uninstall my existing versions and the installer is fine, however here is where it gets complicated. If i reinstall Office, even if I just reinstall Word and Excel, Project reverts to 2016

Only reason I can think is because my 2016 licence key is linked to my Microsoft account.

I do have a "backup" (ahem) copy of Office 2019 but I'm reluctant to use it as everything else is legit.

Any ideas on how I can make it work?

Long shot. Try creating another user maybe?

I dont have product key for 2016 so have to use my microsoft ID to activate it, allthough that is my current work around.

Project on one user and everything else on mine. Bit of a pain switching users all the time though

So create a new windows user not linked to your Microsoft Id.?

But then I cant activate word and excel, the other 2 programs i need

Have you asked m$ support?

Thats suggesting you have a version of office that needs to be removed before installing the 2019 version?

I had to completely remove Office 2007 before installing Office 2013.

I think it was a leftovers issue

I removed everything, then used Cclean to remove references from the registry

Installed and registered Project 2019, tried to reinstall office but got an error similar to above, I found a click to run installer and it worked fine.

As a bonus I now have everything as 2019 version due to the product key they gave me

Until i removed everything and the leftover registry keys it either defaulted to 2016 or failed to work

We have similar issues Between older versions of Office and the new 365 we are stating to migrate to.
