why do you want to take the hub nuts off?
to get the shafts out?
the shafts are prone to sticking in the hubs on these. from what you describe it sounds as if the shafts will be stuck in your hubs.

are you fitting a 1.8 back end and shafts. if so, the 1.8 shafts fit into the 1.6 outer CV cups.
are you the herman off of sxoc per chance.

A small gearbox with square socket input and output, used with a air impact gun or breaker bar. It has a leg sticking out to stop the gearbox turning.

Have you tried heating red hot you say, then big bucket of cold water, nearly always works, rapid expansion and contraction.
