Not giving it an acid bath? What would the pros and cons be of having this done? Apart from cost obviously.

We all love pics keep them coming.

As for the 'evans debate' i find it humourous to watch. Not much good as an instructional DVD tho'. Better off watching Ed China off wheeler dealers for that i reckon.

Ed China is definately the best guy to watch. he understands doing a job on a budget. Evans basically threw out the starting MG and replaced the whole car with a new body shell etc. What was the point. The only thing re-born was the number plate and the windscreen washer bottle

I am just at the end of a 5 year restoration of a BGT (took so long due to lack of effort to be honest). If you need any pictures about how things come apart and go back together let me know as I have probably replaced about 70% of the panels including the roof and windscreen surround (not relevent to you though) and rebuilt almost all the mechanical parts. I am just finishing the painting and then have to put it all back together.

On the subject of the MG is born car I heard, on one of the MG forums, that it cost in the region of £28k to complete. That is a significant wedge of cash for a not very collectable classic!

Anyhow, give me a shout if you want any pics.

Nice Project it looks in reasonable shape to begin.
I'm on my second time round with my MGB GT which I have owned for about 9 years,
You can soon eat up £4,000 to £6000 on these projects so to have a car worth £6,000 people will be looking for more new panels and less patches. Worth bearing it in mind if its about profit.

My mistake was to get side tracked with minor jobs rather than getting on with the structural stuff. Learn't that lesson and cracking on now

Im half way through my first sill change which is going well so far but have decided to change out the splash guard fixing panel at the same time. Should arrive tommorow to get things rolling again

I agree the spares support for MGB's is fantastic. Theres also plenty of of second hand bits on the auction sites.

There are some good blogs out there as well.

Thanks for the advice, I know its going to cost more than expected as I didnt anticipate as much rust , but even if I only break even I have to get this job done, Im thinking a whole panel job is needed for the passanger floor pan as its worse than the drivers side, at least ill have plenty of welding practice

Hoping someone might be able to help me here, I've got a set of the chrome bumpers and 2 rubber bumpers, I'm guessing that by installing the chrome bumper conversion kit ill be able to sell the car easier but loose out a bit on profit and time welding, any ideas?

For the chrome conversion you need to
lower the car, change the front wings near the side lights, add the bumpons at the back under the lights
Some purist buyers will want an original car so look to stick with rubber.

That said chrome cars always sell for more. My advise would be to repair the main structure of the car, ie sills,floor, bulkheads, inner panels. See what that cost you then decide.

You can also start to get an idea how good the finished job will be. DIY roadsters well repaired can sell for £5,000 to £8,000. Lots of service history and photos of the rebuild will be need for the buyer to see.

A good daily driver £4,000 to £6,000 with some records of the rebuild etc.
See how that fits in your profit model and where your aiming for.

The main cost will be paint. £2,000 to £3,000 if you get someone else to do it
Or you can keep cost down doing it yourself but the job will need to be good for a good sell on price.

chrome may add £500 to £1000 to the final value done well.

Ah right didn't realise that I had to replace the front wings, I think ill leave the chrome for now then, I'm going to respray it myself as I'm very capable and got all the kit to do so, thanks for the advice.

If you look at the front wing by the side lights on the rubber bumper it cuts through the side light. The chrome has a full side light cut out plus a bit of panel underneath.

For my respray Im going to put up a poly tunnel in the garden. Should save a few quid

Looking at your front wrong side lights it looks like a chrome bumper wing
Not 100 percent sure. Have a look at the wings on ebay for comparison

Some updates:

one caliper recond.

Both floor pans and jacking points done and all painted.

Boot floor so far,

Exhaust and other bits almost ready to go on.

Thanks, I know its not brilliant but I'm happy with it as its my first crack at welding and restoring a car to this degree, it helps having a damn good welder though.

Update: After further inspection the rear bottom quaters needed replacing. Also managed to strip down the rear axle yesterday amongst a few other things.
