Having had a 'mare finding local Zintec sheets, I've decided Metals4U is the most reasonable, so am mail-ordering. I've got 2mm, 1.2mm and 0.9mm. The inner sill original piece measures 2mm, and I thought the others would be suitable for panel patches depending on what I find easier to work with. I got sniped on an eBay auction for a spot welder I thought I could fix up, considering the price of new ones, so have tested my plug welding on the house with 3mm Corten. It seems like it can work. I haven't got a big enough compressor to run air tools, though perhaps in the future. They seem quite a good idea!
In preparation for making parts, I've made a bender as detailed by tonybmw on RetroRides, and read through all of Springerdinger's comprehensive thread on his GT! We've bought a die grinder to tidy up some inaccessible welds on the window frames for the house, so I hope I can use it to clean out the really tight spots on the MG.
