I've taken the stance that the first thing to do is get paint and coatings from bubbling bits all round to see what needs doing. I've got the front wing off and it looks like the 'trumpet section' is fine. The front of the sill, less so. The under edge is very crummy, and one end of the crossmember can be poked through. As you can see, it's had some rather blobby welding at some point in the past which perhaps is now the time to rectify. I suppose I can patch the bottom edge of the front wing, as there is a panel made for that, and the same with the rear.
I've not done any of this stuff before so I don't want to mess it up. I've got the NS up on some high stands under the bottom rail and rear axle, and will use this access to remove the undercoat around the rusty parts.
I'd be glad if those who do this in their sleep would chip in and make sure I don't do anything foolish. Well, anything more foolish than I've already done in deciding to cut my car up...
