Hi all,
A couple of years back I bought an MG Midget from a chap that didn't come with any sorts of documents or history just a verbal discussion as how it came to be. It's a 1974 car I believe from decoding the VIN/Chassis number which was taken off the road in the late 70's early 80's to have a fibreglass Lenham Le Mans body fitted and therefore was fully stripped down. It was then left in someone's garage for many years never being completed and over that time both the number plates and V5 were lost/misplaced. I intend to fully restore the car and hopefully take it to the track like it was supposed to all those years ago but would still like to keep it road legal and therefore need to try and track down its lost registration number. Ideally I'd rather not have it Q plates but if that's my final option then I guess it's what I'll do. Apologies for the long spiel but I just wanted to give some back story of the car and my situation.
In the past I'm aware that a simple HPI check could be done with the VIN only but this is no longer the case for an average joe like me for I assume reasons of fraud? ringing? whatever it is it appears that the option has been lost. A V62 is something that I'm yet to try because of the unlikely event of a reply from the DVLA if I leave the registration blank and the chance of a incorrectly typed VIN on their end. If anyone has another possible avenue I would greatly appreciate it.
Many thanks,
Martin
