So now the sheds raised 3’ I can build a decent floor,200mm Zed purlins,plus a floor support for good measure at 1/3rd in.
Tragically a customer friend then offered me a stack of chipboard flooring,enough to do several layers,roll on 2 weeks and he dies on the phone to his daughter! The floor will be known as Kevin now,someone who would always help others.

Collected loads of sheets of chipboard today,lots of it had water stains and with a rudimentary test representing joist gaps and jumping on the boards it gave way,so I’ve picked the best and will trim the edges,these boards have travelled from Kent,to Herefordshire,then Germany and back.

if you cut them into pieces angle your circular saw so that one slots above the other best not to butt joint them

dont forget to overlap them

Have had similar damp affected boards given FOC for me to floor the roof void . After putting down bearers at right angles to the trusses every 8 & a bit inches apart the length of the bungalow I laid two 48 inch long x boards end to end across th apex then cut to boards in half length and double laid a full with a half at the end of them over the whole floor staggering the first full and half board putting in six screws per board once they were nipped up tight .
Its given me a very strong 20 mm thick roof void floor .

In one or two places where the wastrels who slung the place up had been , I had to add glued & screwed side supports to trusses where they had used galloping spacings for the trusses ie . 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 " between centres ..sometime they even nailed a variety of nails & screws into the plaster boards with both edges of the nailed /screwed boards having the fixings sticking up into fresh air . No wonder there were board edge cracks all over our bungalow .,

Many years ago I had an interview at a fabricator / blacksmiths, they had a mezzanine like that with a chipboard floor above the office , they kept the lathe up there

Was it sited over/adjacent to a stanchion,the UDL could be ignored in certain positions.

I didn’t get a good look, but it appeared to be just an office knocked up out of 4x2 and plasterboard, there was a wooden ladder up to it for access…
