We will req 17, 8x4 so quite a few to cover the area have priced the UB approx £350 each but if using grating probably wont need any other steel and will not need the last beam against the wall coz nothing will be on it quick look found thishttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Floor-Forge-Walkway-Galvanised-Steel-Grating-6-000mtr-x-1-000-Mtr-New-25mm-de/252341698866?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40656%26meid%3D5e46e4e4510047d4920fa8ba29109fff%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D252780233758

not as expensive as I thought and would speed the job up.
The metal grating seems the way forward , and could probably end up being cheaper overall as the need for the intermediate supports has gone.
The grating you show is for walkways rather than vehicle support. Your engineer friend will be able to advise beam spacings . Its all a matter of what works out best value.
In the past we have increased the grating size to maximise the distance between supports, and when you incorporate labour for fabrication / installation etc it can make a difference.
On a DIY job its not so critical time wise.
Off the top of my head you would probably be looking more toward 40 X 5 on a 33/100 pattern ( you will be surprised how easy it to bend 25 x 5 if the supports are too far apart)**
Have a look at your local jetwash to see what they have on the floor there. BTW the standard size for mesh grating off the shelf is 1m wide X 6m long
** i am a fat old chugger mind, ( plus im not an SE but I have done a fair bit of this type of work)
