Metalcraft help from Chunkolini

after a number of pm's back and fourth with Mr Chunkolini and a call to Metalcraft today I have managed to get myself a cracking deal on the power bender XL5+ and accessory pack. Should be with me tomorrow so it will be a weekend of tinkering after welding up a demolition grab on Saturday morning

Always thought there stuff looked handy but can't be bothered negotiating from the published prices which I feel are unrealistic

As with everything in life, you pay peanuts you attract monkeys. You get what you pay for. Getting a good deal is no problem at all with metalcraft. I am the kind of person who will walk into a shop, look at the price and then offer them a lower price, show them that I have the money in my pocket and I'm prepared to spend it with a competitor. More often than not they will make the sale instead of losing one

Pricy but quality. I would love to get hold of the cheapo copies off fleabay and see how they compare in action.

My first Metalcraft purchase was a pair of scroll tools, I bought them as a youngster somewhere about 1970, made thousands of scrolls on them and sold them a year ago for more than I paid for them.

Their tooling simply does all it promises to, I have a couple of their more modern tools now and they are simple and brilliant to use.

They are expensive, not having the prices openly listed is annoying and yes it bugs me too that to get a price you feel you have to barter.

I have had a set of the blue cheapanese copies go through the workshop and in fairness they did work ok but not to the ease or accuracy of the Metalcraft equipment.

Rude why? Surely that's no way to run a business making up the prices on a whim. Lol

the prices were not on a whim and would probably be the same for anyone phoning up and name dropping Alan as well as being a member on the forum,
there is another discount to be taken into account which I wont go into

As much as I like and admire their products I think their secrecy on prices, both the retail listed if you sign up and the real one you can get after a bit of bartering actually costs them business, I think it's a silly practice and one often done by firms who know their prices will put customers off.

Like it or not but a lot of people do not like signing up to retail websites, instead they will walk away, browse ebay or similar and buy from there, which I now see Metalcraft are themselves listing on.

I agree with Simon, Always haggle and try every trick in the book, I have found the price i usually end up paying is far below the initial asking price, The mark up on new gear is huge, If poss get to speak to the top man in the business, and as Simon says be prepared to walk away, Nine times out of ten they would rather make a few quid than non at all.

I agree wholly, hence when I was working as a spark I didn't use Eddies, CEF, Newey and Eyre etc unless I ABSOLUTELY had to...this bartering and getting different prices depending on who answers the phone gets on my wick and is like stepping back to the 1930s or the 1950s...

Ebay, Screwfix, Toolstation, price you see is the price you pay...

+1000 from me to this. As far as I'm concerned, the era for all that haggling on the phone/at the counter crap has passed, and if you want to do business with me nowadays you need to be up-front (i.e. on the internet) with a sensible price, and allow me to order something in the middle of the night, using a credit card. Anything else looks like you're some combination of dopey and/or greedy.

I do feel a bit sorry for small companies to whom decent e-commerce sites are a big expense, and who genuinely feel that all this "let's talk about the options and the best deal on the phone" stuff is actually the good service they want to offer. But my sympathies might not extend to actually giving them any money...
