I've fancied having a go at spinning for a while but I haven't got the room for another lathe. I was warned that it can be bloody lethal when I asked for advice on another site.
I have wondered about trying a small wheel or bearing attached to a tool and using the tool post on my metalwork lathe for small parts but I cant help thinking that I will probably just destroy something.
Have you tried just making a male former and using a block of rubber instead of a female part. I've had quite a lot of success with this method.

Yeah pressing makes more sense for common sizes. For occasionally used or one off parts (obviously once tooling/tool rests etc are sorted) the former is much less work than for a pressing, no more work than for a wooden hammer form and should last a lot longer.
