Metal roofing sheets (again!) and flashing problems

So I've got the roof up now with the sheets firmly attached, I've got the flashing up against the existing garage sorted but I'm struggling with the end flashing's. The sheets are as below and the I need to put a flashing at the end of the lean to - the right hand side of the profile below at one end and the left hand side at the other.

The problem I cant seem to figure out is that the flashing is a 200mm x 200mm angle which doesn't reach the second ridge. A bit like;

I would have thought the top leg would stitch to the top of the profile? Have I been sent the wrong flashing or do I need to cut the sheet as below?

Or am I missing something totally obvious

That would be a case of missing something obvious They're definitely the right way up

I put steel cladding on our stables a couple years ago. The roofing and flashing came from the same company. They overlap as you indicated in the first illustration, ie they don't reach the second ridge. Once everything is screwed down it doesn't move. I'll post a photo shortly.

Ah so that's how its meant to go. I have the same roofing on my garage (installed by previous owner) but the ends are just loose on top of the facia boards. Will have to get some of the flashings and finish it off properly.

Hi, My guess is that it stops capillary action and the the water then possibly going in through the fixings.

Idealy they should bridge 2 peaks, to stop water been blown in. It also stops them from flapping in high winds, causing the fixing to pull out.

when i was looking in to metal roof the shop welling them said to me best bet fix the roof and then come bac with a measurement and we bend the end bit to size

Think they've just given you a standard sort of flashing to cover most situations, the barge flashings we used to do were bent to the profile of the sheet and looked allot neater.

We have a specialised company fold ours for our roofing division so they span two ridges, we supply them with the appropriate flat sheet and they cut and fold ours, we just e-mail the dimensions and sheet type and they do it for us while we wait, by the time we go to collect them they have them ready and packaged.

Thanks for the photo, that's exactly how it'll go together but it just doesn't seem 'right' my main worry is the wind catching the edge and peeling the flashing back - and we get a fair bit of wind at times!

Think they've just given you a standard sort of flashing to cover most situations, the barge flashings we used to do were bent to the profile of the sheet and looked allot neater.

I did wonder about that but couldn't find anything that looked right in the drawings catalogue on their website, I didn't want to call them without knowing a bit more to avoid sounding like a clueless Muppet!

The manufacturer is about 30 miles away and I'm thinking I could ask them to supply the proper profile as technically its not what I asked for and I'll return the stuff I have. Problem is getting 4m flashing's down there on my 2.5m trailer

I agree that if the flashing spanned both ridges it would look better, but that wasn't possible no matter how I cut the sheets given the width of the roof. The flashing ("barge boards") were prefabricated to set dimensions.

I wouldn't be concerned about the wind catching the edge. Follow the manufacturer's guide on fixing down the sheets and all will be good. Ours has been up for over two years in all weather and not moved at all and the flashing does not flex no matter how strong the wind.

That's good to know thanks, Its just annoying knowing it could be better if the flashing had been just that bit wider..

Maybe I should just concentrate on welding the rusting camper under the lean to..
