metal paint back at aldi 31st

i know some of you like the aldi metal paint , its back for sale on the 31st

yeah i find you need to pop in a grab it asap , often sells out the good colours same day around here

My local Aldi had stock in last week of all colours, for some reason they often do, If you were desperate I could get some for you but suspect the postage would kill the price.

Still got a cupboard full of Aldi metal paint rattle cans, I went a bit crazy last time they appeared. Still I'm good for sprays until 2050. Hopefully medical technology will improve enough to allow me to live long enough use them all.

I'll be getting some more. It's not particularly nice to use with a brush imo - too thin so takes several coats to cover clean metal (covers rough / rusty or primed metal very well though). Thinned down 4:1 with white spirit and sprayed on it goes on though is a different story - covers well and dries to a very nice finish. In case anyone doesn't realise the "Silver" colour is not metallic but a plain colour light grey.

Another vote from me. I love the aerosol version of this paint. I started painting our gates with the tinned version and, as Paul says, it seemed very thin, almost transparent. It was taking ages, so I switched to the spray cans and finished the job in no time with better smoother coverage.

Our car resto project is black so I am using it in all the hidden areas like sills, boot, wheel arches. It dries to a hard, dull gloss, and some of it has been on the car for two years without deteriorating. At £3 a spray can, I doubt there is better value paint available.

My tin of aldi black, has had the lid removed so many time for small jobs the paint is now the consistency of treacle, but it does cover extremely well, I also think the new Aldi metal paints are thinner than it was a few years ago.

Same I can't fault the tin I have once dried I worried about it coming off being water based but even srubbing with a scotch pad and warm water was still good

If paint is a bit thin, or someone has over thinned it, i leave the lid off for a while, stir it every few hours so it doesn't skin. The solvent quickly evaporates and it thickens up a bit.

That is what appears to have happened to my black, Lid been of so often and doesn't even fit tightly anymore, But strangely no matter how long i leave it , it does not skin over.

oil based , seems to mix with with white spirit or thinners

I've purchase a fair amount of gloss (not metal) paint from aldi in the past. You have to look real close at the can, as sometimes its water based, and sometimes oil.

As in they swap and change.

I've only ever had oil based metal stuff from them.

PS. I happen to like the silver - kind of not so very far off machine shop grey!

Mine is satin so maybe why water based but as above I've scrubbed with warm water and scotch pad as still as new so don't be put off it being water based as still hard wearing

Goes on fine, washes out of brushes easily, but not good over oil based gloss without more surface prep than you would generally do with another coat of oil based.

Overall, I like it. Given the choice, for general decorating, I would choose the water based.

If you paint them side by side, its shocking how quick the oil based yellows in comparrison.

I can't grumble only used to coat bits that I'd welded to keep rust at bay that was just one coat with no prep so there's dust the lot on the metal lol
