Meant to say that the top left "rectangle" piece, came off as I was cleaning the PVA mould up. Should be easy enough I guess to stuck back on with PVA glue. You can see the hollow inner of the mould.

I have been thinking, these rectangular holes in the final part might give some issues to metal flow. I could gate the part so its fed from both sides, but Im thinking it would be better having smaller holes cast then filing them out to the final size.

No digital temperature readout. The blurb says it holds at a steady 70degC. How's that done I wonder, an adjustable stat? Maybe I could get inside and tweak it down to the 52degC ish that I'm after?

Feeling awful today.. terrible headache, eyes sore, cold/hot. I suspect a bit if zinc fume got me on thursdays melt
Or it might be that I ran 16km and went bouldering for a few hours yesterday.. first time in 2 years... Did too much.. I have sore muscles I didnt know I had! I may have had some scotch and got very dehydrated too.

The cow horse brass is circa 28000mm3

The single ice cream cone circa 17000mm3

Thats bigger than I thought. 280x8.73 = 2.5kg of brass and probably 3.5kg with the feeder and everything. It will be near full cruicible. Going to need more nuts!

Those figures are from my lad last night when we came back from the pub and he'd drunk more than usual. Two and a half pints, proper lightweight . Saying that he's as skinny as a feeder tube so it affects him more.

Think of a horse brass in your hand, no way are those figures right. I was in no state to challenge them last night though myself!

When he surfaces we'll check again.

Perhaps use a small slow cooker off Freecycle & a jam making thermometer or £5 digital probe meat cooking thermometer that registers down to 30 oC or so ?

Tbh I can get a standard cylinder stat for less than a fiver so that would likely do it.

That 's what I used for my candles and some of the lower heat casting waxes . The harder higher blue & green waxes simply melted the silicon moulds

Melted the wax in a small cheap lipped sauce pan on a hot plate out in the mancupboard and used the jam thermometer to stop heating at the right temp .

Back from the pub... apparently I can't use the wax melter until my 15 year old has used it to wax her legs and pits. Bloody hirsute offspring like their mother. Why can't they be balding and ginger like me?

Opened up the wax melter and fitted one of those little remote temperature sensor things. Found a handy clamped on band round the kettle to wedge it in. Brought the lead out the side through a little filed hole:
