metal finishing /rust prev

Ok, I have a large number of these clamps...

years old and the metal shafts have all rusted out....
the orig finish was some kinda black stuff that reminded me of gun black....
to clean off the rust is no prob but refinishing is....
I would norm get em zinc plated but nobody does it here....
I need something that doesn't need heat and old oil.....
Any recomends.....

De rust with a wire brush and cover in a light clean oil they soon go black once it evaporates My clamps were made by Wolf 40 years ago ( got a right ear bending off my las as thy were £38 a pair ) they still get regular use.. used them this afternoon .

Ive got irwin equivalent. No special attention is really needed, so long as they work. Maybe some gt85 or the pink stuff, but i wouldnt bother spending much effort on them. The clamps work by friction on that bar, so its not like you would really want some kind of polished (or oiled) finish.

Mine work by way of an over centering link of hardened steel digging into the edge of the shafts . oil does not seem to affect them . The GT85 does help lube the plastic for easier metal movements through it.
