I got a job lit of old tools and the files are excellent. I don't use files alot and got a cheapo aldi set. But they are rubbish compared to the old files. You can feel the file cutting on the old ones and skating on the cheap ones.
I bought a set from Proops on ebay, indian made but they are nice, have bstard, 2nd cut and smooth, work more than well enough for my needs...
Does Wilkinson (razor company) have anything to do with Wilkinson files? I seem to remember hearing once that it is.
Why is that then? I need some new files to do an experiment nowI use files a lot, break them in on a lump of brass before use on steel you will be surprised how much better they last. Putting them straight to work on steel considerably lowers their life. It don't take more than a minute or two. Don't care about brand
I've heard of the chalk thing, never tried it though, I just keep a wire brush handy.
Never throw a file away...5 mins on the grinder and they make great scrappers..removing old maching paint, old gaskets, removing welding spatter ect...
