she’s thinking our field,as it’s river meadow & roadside.
It's worth spending time considering previous land use....if it's river meadow has it ever been used for anything else, what were water levels like years ago, possible previous market/fayre site etc? If it's not been ploughed 'recently' then finds are liable to gradually 'sink' from detector range.
Having said that, I detect on local farmland and have never had a dead field, the most common find (ignoring shotgun cartridge caps and other junk) is silver hammered coins of medieval to Tudor period.
Although ploughed fields have the benefit of regularly bringing finds closer to the surface year after year, and allowing you to get the search coil closer to the surface the finds do unfortunately tend to be in poorer condition.
