Thanks. Dont worry - as above, i am considering just running a new run now if this turns into a real nightmare. We think we may have found someone local who has a detector so will give them a try.
I tried that with some detector ists, but they couldnt find the wire armoured phone line 6 inches down. Digger did though no issue.
I had that happen several times when I worked in BT . One place had had nine serious plough rashes to the STWA 20 pair cable often totally severing the darn thing serving farm offices and a big house . In the end it was put in a proper 5 foot deep comms pipe along the farm track with all joints glue welded to keep water out .
Might it be better just to bite the bullet and install a whole new pipe ........ next size up ?
They were probably more preoccupied with looking for non ferrous artefacts, and had tuned their detectors to not signal ferrous stuff............
That's where my mind is. I put 100m of 32 mm in to replace old 25 and 3/4" steel on a section the other day. The problem is that this pipe.is about 1.5 miles in length! So replacement and upgrade will be gradual and as needed!
Will you have several air bleed points in it so you don't have air springs as the pipe follows the undulation of the ground ?
Not sure what you mean. It's all buried and a constant fall. It drops around 600ft from the meter over it's length hence the need for a PRV but it's also added a point where it can get blocked! After working on it I run it from the first tap on the line until any air or muck is gone.
That all got in as we managed to catch the pipe higher up the hill where replacing it. It pulled a joint apart and shot the sand the pipe was buried in up the line. One stopcock caught a lot and the rest settled here. Pressure in this pipe is impressive even with the meter turned off at the very top.
