Stunning Gordon, i didn't cop when i clicked on the thread that the top picture was a cake, i thought it was a child sitting on a mini armchair hiding. Amazing.
I think these are the sort of jobs we all learn the most from haha so not all is lost
Tell your lasses those cakes are fantastic, just a shame somebody is going to ruin them be eating them
Wow gordan that would have boiled my blood sorry for your daughters misfortune and the rest of you guys too :/
I've had that sort of crap far too many times to be happy with .
These days I 'have said , " Well actually its cost me a tremendous amount of money , because I sell these bespoke special designed cakes to order for £ 200 to 250 . But if you're hard up I'll make an exception today and only charge you £100 for it cash on the nail . Oh thanks for the flowers , I'll see if I have a vase small enough for them " .Then stand there holding out my hand .
What no cash on you ..... no worries I'll go the cash point with you .
I rarely make anything or fix owt in the garage for anyone unless they do stuff for me in return . u can gain a lot of friends when they see what u have . when u say I haven't the time u suddenly have no friends a builder told me a saying 45 years ago . u cant spend a pocketful of thank u very muches down the supermarketYou'll be surprised at how many instant friends you can grow when your cnc mill first starts working. And as for the wire edm, I had a "friend" wanting me to wire him a gear out, I priced it up as just the price of the wire and electricity, not the DI resin and other consumables and he rang me up and started ranting how I was trying to take advantage of his friendship!
This, right here is why I never make anything for anyone but myself.
In a way, its not just about money, its about people valuing their time more than yours because somehow theyre better than you it feels like?
Book a cement truck delivery, you just need people to turn up to return the favour for that time you spent 2 days digging their new septic tank out for free, then you see your "friends" desire to return the favour evaporate. Barter would be great, its just that some people don't play by the rules and spoil it for everyone.
