The dash on my Saab has been in and out several times. Not too many wires fortunately. There are 4 long bolts of different lengths that hold it in and if you forget the order the bolts go back in you're stuffed.

I used to watch the dashboards being fitted to Range Rovers, the complete dash would arrive trackside as a sub assembly then loaded into the car on a handler where it was secured with 4 bolts, one fitted once a minute!.

Update, the new heater core had arrived. The car is getting a new radiator and heater core. Radiator is a great find, the last correct manual transmission radiator option available in the world basically (NLA from MB etc)
New heater core:
The heater box was completely stripped and washed out. The sink water was black! I also lubricated all of the little plastic arm joints for significant improvement. Heater box reassembled and ready to fit. I shook the assembled unit and had to take it apart again to add more foam than came with the heater core! As I had bought 2x heater cores (1x spare for the shelf) I stole its foam.
Ready to go back in the car.

One thing that first looked like a minor issue is turning out to be a larger issue due to NLA parts 
The heater control slider switch was broken apart in the dash and bits fell out.
It clearly hasn't worked for many years but obviously I want / need to fix it or have no blower motor.
I found 3x of the 4x small contacts within the carpets. I need to keep looking and see if I can find the last small part and carry out several repairs on this switch. Not ideal but it is NLA and used ones are expensive
Im also trying w201 / 190 breaking adverts to see if I can buy a used one at a non Ebay price!! On the rare chance that anyone has a useful lead on a 190 parts car let me know.

Alternator back from rebuilding. All new bearings, slip rings and reg / brush set + bench test and warranty for £48 cash.
I will take it apart again to repaint the centre section. I didn't want to paint it before rebuild incase it got scratched up and it only takes 5 mins to break it down again.
That lead me to go ahead and pull the cam cover to replace a snapped stud which was leaking oil onto the alternator for years. The cover will be blasted and sprayed with gloss black CTEK high temp caliper paint.
The car has clearly had regular oil changes going by how clean the oil galleries are. Duplex chains on the 2.5L 16vs. (2.3L Cosworths had a single row chain)
The timing chain is also tight after 175k miles and 35 odd years. Hard to beat old mercs
Their company motto at that time was "The best or nothing".

I tried to fix mine and only managed to get it working on full or nothing

I have been perhaps overthinking the radio selection for this car. I really wanted an 80s style Blaupunkt radio but with modern features. I wanted it to have a modern ISO plug and Bluetooth streaming, hands free calls and such not.
I went and got a Mercedes radio locally but still was a bit unsure. Anyway - I spotted by chance tonight that one that fits the bill perfectly aesthetics wise too was way down on price. Normally this head unit is £350+ RRP so I ordered it and it will be perfect for this car and didn't break the bank.

So I will be able to make one good switch from them both is the plan.
Tonight I fitted the new Bosch clutch master cylinder:
And the cam cover refurbishment is complete ready to go back on the car when the new m6 stud arrives. (One stud was snapped hence oil leaks before)
