Clearing some stuff out of the loft at my moms house today and found these, thought they might be of interest....

When you didn't need a laptop to open the bonnet!

The last book had a nice pullout, I've just got to figure out how to join the 2 images it took to scan it, watch this space....

Especially the "How to generate electricity free of cost" part.
How do they suggest you do/did it? Maybe you'll be clearing out the basement next, and find a nearly completed huge water wheel, powered by an underground aquifer.

I love that on the Norton book "The Unapproachable Norton Motorcycle". I've know a few women like that!

I've got an 'Unapproachable Norton' T shirt somewhere - gold on black but, I imagine, a bit faded now. The Norton Owners Club published a wonderful booklet on all the things that could go wrong with the Norton Commando - quite amusing in places (until it happened to you)! I did about 75,000 very memorable miles on mine before I finally gave up with it - those were the days!

My Grandad had big old hardback books with the same kind of stuff in - 'How to Rewire Your House for the Handyman'; 'How to make Experimental Electrical Circuits', 'How to build an Electric Furnace' etc.
I found them fascinating as a boy, until my old man took them off of me: "Before you burn the bloody house down!"

I didn't have any books;-)
However a mates grandad gave me several books, including that one and
the Amateurs Workshop. Flogged the lathe book on ebay, surprisingly[or not] no one wanted the workshop book, it even has a chapter on countershafts;-)

That's still classed as pretty much a definitive reference book for beginners, (and a good source of reference for old hands too), even after all these years. The beauty of the old books was that they didn't **** around like they do in the newer books. They just got straight to the point without loads of warnings, namby approaches and worrying about people losing limbs etc.

I was probably about 10 or 11 years old when a toolmaker mate of my dad's gave me that book - coincided with my dad buying a lathe for us both to use.

Clearing some bookshelves I came across these, which I didn't even know I had.
I think I must have picked them up out of mechanical curiosity sometime, I wasn't in the trade that long ago, honest... The second picture shows a 1973 Wartburg owners manual, something for the Connoisseur...
