Tell you what that's a nice little lathe and not much used. Take care not to over speed the plain bearings and check if they are wick-fed coz they might need new oiling wicks. Going by the size of the change gears it looks like it might even cut metric threads, if they are all there.

It looks fabulous spencer. A nice lump there.
That looks a funky 3 jaw. Does it have the internal jaws for that. It won’t be much use for smaller parts without them. Dunno what they’re like to find either or if they are compatible with many other chucks.

That's a Taylor chuck, if I recall correctly. Said to be good chucks. Looks like the other jaws are in with the gears.

I have read about the oil wick fed bearings. And apparently there is a part that collects debris and has to be cleaned

Not sure Pete. Will have a look tomorrow. I think there only a couple of gears missing. But chuffed I got what I did with the machine

Look after those gears, always make sure they have backlash when you set up the changewheels, they'll break easily otherwise.

Drawer, not draw. What size gears are missing, and what's their bore? I assume they're standard tooth pattern?

A slip of paper between gears gives suitable clearance when setting them.

Depends on the design, I'd guess. The wick itself will act as a filter, so unless there's some type of reservoir within the casting, just clean the oil pot out occasionally and replace the wick if/when necessary.

I am the same with words, i get reports for works proof read and fixed, but although its not the correct word we all get the idear. As pete said always better of go slightly slack with a gear than tight. The amount of time they are engaged when threading wear is not a issue but you don't need them locking up and losing teeth, could also spoil the part you are turning.

I have 12 gears. There was apparently 23 supplied from factory. Ranging from 20 up to 95 teeth.

Just wondered, as I have some standard pattern gears here, (came mixed in with the Drummonds), which are no use to me for the Drummonds. I'll not be using them as I don't want to risk any mix-ups. I've already got a couple of Drummond gears with missing teeth due to some previous owner dropping that faux pas. If you let me know the tooth counts, I'll see if I have owt which may help. You may have to rebore or sleeve, and sort a keyway though.

You need to check the DP of your gears to see if they match. Checking is easy. Take the tooth count, add two and divide by the diameter in inches. So if your 80 tooth gear is 5.125" diameter it's 82/5.125 = 16, it would be a 16DP gear.

Of course to check if your gears are the same DP all you need actually do is compare the diameters of the same tooth count gears, but knowing the DP helps. After that all they need to be is the same pressure angle, which being that old they probably are both 14.5degrees.
