A very good friend is clearing out and has given Winchboy his Meddings drill.
The casting says 7151-SD-MK2 is over 5ft tall and weighs a ton!
Had to strip it to move it!
Any idea as to its age or how we could find a manual?
when i had a meddings i rang them direct and they were very helpful and still have most parts in stock for nearly all drills they made. (that is what they said ).
As Andy said, ring or e-mail meddings, send them a photo of the plate that shows the belt speeds as that should have the model & serial no on it. They will send you a parts list but be sitting down when you price new parts - they are not cheap!
For a manual try Tony on lathes.co.uk but again not cheap! Not really needed anyway on a simple drill like that, a parts list will suffice to any dismantling required.
It came with what looks like the correct mortising attachment should he keep it? I do wonder for what he would get as it may be useful in future?
He is having a clear out and gave us a load of random stuff including a wood lathe which will have to go as I cant see him using it, might just have a go first!
A lot of it he is giving to a friend who is studying design at uni as he needs tools and hasn't much.
my floor standing Meding is still going strong, different motor tho........I've had it 20 years or more....god knows how old it really is........
nice 1.......
I have 2 Meddings drills in my workshop and both are ancient but in good condition and full working order. A couple of years ago an idiot (not me) snapped off the grease nipple for lubricating the quill, and when I contacted Meddings they sent me one free of charge. Great company.
That is a great gift!
They had records going back at least to 1960, when we bought the one I have. No spare quill shafts though. Still running on the original single phase motor.
I have a much later second one, doesn't quite have the same feel. Came with mint table. Both are bench models, I would love a floor one.
He is a really good friend helped me loads over the years, he wanted rid of some of his bigger stuff as he no longer uses it, the little tray we think it is for the chuck key, the table has a drain hole for a coolant system which I hadn't seen before.
He has given him some stuff to sell and I know it will be difficult to get him to take the cash, so I will do a booze delivery!
Winchboy wants his own workshop so its being kept for then unless we need it, we are going to put it back together and sort the foot pedal out over the next few weeks, I have a bench mounted Startrite and cant fault it for what I paid.
We are now starting to collect Morse taper drills!
Its also missing the thing that holds the belt cover on but I am certain we can make one, one of the knobs on the table clamp is brass which I have never seen before?
