Whilst whiling away the evenings in my HK hotel room I am giving some thought to my next narrow gauge 7.25" locomotive I am planning to build. Subject to a suitable power plant arriving (and I have one promised) I am thinking of a diesel engined hydraulic powered bogie locomotive.
I have never played with hydraulics before, but I have collected lots of bits (pumps, motors, controls). Each bogie will probably have two axles. I have two pumps. I was thinking of having individual motors per axle and one pump driving that pair of motors. The rational behind it is that if I have a light load (or just the engine) I only drive one bogie.
I assume I will need an engine speed control and a hydraulic flow control?
Any thoughts?
Cheers
