Been onto my company to order me a good set of measuring and marking tools, however we're currently going through a period of austerity (their being tight while making up another level of managers) I have decided to buy my own and will bring them home when they eventually decide to invest. Can anyone recommend a decent set. I dont mind spending a bit because I want a set that will last and I work in heavy industry.

I'd start looking for old Moore & Wright stuff. It can be picked up for peanuts these days. The only thing you might find expensive is a sliding Square, in that case I'd buy a new Stanley.
While on the subject of squares, unless you know the history I would stay clear of 2nd ones, unless you can check it. I hate to say it but a cheap set from the likes of RDG Tools is your best place for them, a set of 3 is less than 20quid.
