Used to have our summer Holidays, we did a house swap with mums cousin, about a mile outside St Boswells.

 

They used to have a shop there, you could buy stuff not sure whats there now!

What direction from St Boswells? I'm 12.8 miles from my house door to the chip shop in the middle of St Boswells.

 

They still have a factory there, think its mostly hokesaws and saw blades they make their, not 100% sure though

Has changed quite a bit, used to be a really enclosed garden but the house itself still looks familiar.

 

Last time I measured a "2 cycle" engine bore I was stood on top of the piston, while the engine was turned.

 

Who do these companies just make things cheaper and more crap.

mitutoyos cost to make a set of these gauges can’t be more than £50.
They sell them to distributor for £80.
Distributor sells them to dealer for £100
Dealer sells them to me for £130.

everyone has made plenty of profit, customer has ended up with a quality item.

But instead everyone wants to make a bigger profit, and they start at the bottom! Manufacture the product cheaper.

ESAB went like that once the Americans got involved and now pedal Chinese stuff no where near as good as machines they made 20 years ago.

 

Why do companies say we are performing badly, we only earnt a million.


World is broken

 

ESAB is owned by a company called Colfax. CEO got 7m in bonuses. We were told we were performing badly turned over hundreds of millions, paid 1000s of staff around the globe.
Surely keeping 1000s of people in well paid jobs is a win.
That’s the problem with investors and public companies.

 

I wholeheartedly agree. Profit is not a dirty word, but greed is and it is "all for the shareholders". Really winds me up, hopefully this whole thing will level the field a little, I know for sure I wouldn't like to be holding a portfolio of offices to rent right now......

 

You can buy a set of used slip gauges less than the price of some upmarket digital callipers. It depends on the accuracy of the bore you want to decide what you measure with. I wouldn't used a digital caliper for precise measurement.
