I bought a little yacht to get the family sailing on the Norfolk Broads and need to adapt it to allow the mast to be lowered and raised to get under bridges
Traditional Broads boats are built like that
My Virgo Voyager is 23 ft with a 28 ft Ali mast sitting on a fitting on deck that can be used as a hinge
A quote from DC Marine at Aswellthorpe (DC Developments) to build and fit such a device was £1400 plus VAT - way out of budget
so I bought 7 metres of 42mm 2.2mm wall 316 SS tube from Q-Rails (architectural hand rails) and a few bits of 50mm by 6 mm plate
and then an R-tech TIG 160
now all I have to do is learn to TIG weld
Hint cheap non rental argon in Norfolk from ibweld.com 11L for £72 10 year rental plus £38 for gas plus VAT at 200Bar
I like the tutorials and videos
I will take some photos of progress
cheers
Brian
