that was the going rate at the time i got offered a manx rolling chassis for 100 quid but i couldnt aford it
Yeah i know, old cars and bikes that are worth fortunes now were just another old jallopy back then. I have some of the first issues of classic bike magazine (early 80's), in the classified ads at the back a 1960 pre unit triumph bonneville was going for £400. The same bike today would be north of £12,000.

Yep; 40 years ago I was offered two boxes of Beeza in bits - an A10 and A7 - both complete - for a fiver each.
Couldn't be asred with the hassle.
After the oil shock, big old GT cars were going for peanuts - got GIVEN an Armstrong Siddely Star Sapphire limo version, and in the same year was offered a 1965-ish E-type for a couple of hundred by the salesman at the place I was working at - he reckoned I'd be interested in it. Nothing wrong with it, but it was a brute to run and insure so I turned it down.
Not long after that - a Jensen Interceptor that needed a slushbox rebuild could have been mine for a haggling starting point of 400 quid. I let that one slide, as like everyone else at the time I honestly thought there was no future in gas-guzzlers.
Minis were going through the roof, of course.
How I wish I'd had the spare cash and the room to keep them.
