I picked up this #27 Whitney metal tool Co manual punch last year.
What I’m calling the head has a screw thread. The ram is manually driven through the head and also has a thread. Between the two are 20 or so ball bearings captive in their thread at either end of the ram. The head thread is not captive ie it open ended presumably so the ram can be threaded into with the bearings.
Now here’s the problem, try as I might every time I try and screw the ram into the head with the bearings in place and covered in grease they fall out the thread one by one.
Can anyone here make any suggestions as to how I get the ram back in?
