Regular greasing is more important than the type of grease on the water!

Big late now but if you see a Wanner grease gun going cheap , give one a go . Little one handed jobbies are normally less than £5 at car boots/auto jumbles .

i got one for a tenner ive got a five gallon drum of grease but cant be arsed to fill it as i have a grease gun that takes cartridges i robbed of a jcb 50 years ago and a few spare . only use it on my donkey saw so will last for ever

If you want the best then alemite. Closely followed by mcnaught. They are expensive but work better in every way. The alemite pistol grip has 2 settings. High volume low pressure and high pressure low volume. Means you don't need a leaver type as well.
Alemite are the OEM manufacturer for CAT grease guns and mcnaught for John Deere.

Thats interesting. Looks identical, apart from the rubber handle grip, to the one supplied back in the day, by Ford Tractor Operations Europe .

I have got two. Had them 30 odd years. The only grease guns I ever found that actually worked, and still do.

Thank you Mat, that's helpful. I can use it for my car's trunnions too, if need be.

I bought a Wanner 315 which works for oil as well, and is used just for this purpose - Triumphs need oil in the trunnions, but many owners mistakenly use grease which ends up at the top of the joint and the bottom wears out!

Bit late for the op but we had a vintage push type grease gun on the farm which my grandad left to my dad! God knows how old it was! It worked well but was messy to fill and sometimes got air locked. Was a mornings work greasing the hay making equipment at hay time! I think the threads on the filler cap went in the end. Then a succession of cheap badged chinese crap followed, hilka, draper, etc picked up from auction mart none of which lasted more than a year, or worked particularly well either. Then we got a Fuchs Reiner and it's a game changer! Clean as it uses cartridges, no leaks or air locks and completely empties the cartridge. Whilst I wouldn't say it's the most fun you can have greasing nipples, it is the most productive!

A quick Google says alemite have produced grease guns for both ford, new Holland and case new Holland. But so have a company called Dearborn, by the looks these are highly collectable and are worth 2-3 hundred dollars in the states.

If you have never changed the chuck you can tell an alemite as they only have 3 jaws where as everyone else uses 4. The alemite chucks are infinitely better than anything else, even the g coupler type. And only usually a few quid.
