Batteries here! Arrived flat, fair enough, guess its safer that way. I'm waiting the the "Makita Melody", which its not making. The light went green a while ago
Bloody hell the fan is loud, on the DC40RA, sounds like a drone or vacuum cleaner!
To be honest I might not have heard it with the fan going! Moved it to the hall and it sounds like somone is using a hedge trimmer. I dont know what they were thinking, a slightly larger fan would have been silent.
Reinserted and it made a bleep, again and it made a different bleep. Not quite a melody..
Good and bad. I couldnt do much yesterday as I was coughing so much I couldnt stay on the ladder.
The other guy decided to climb a fence, throw and catch his hl94, with the stationary but sharp blade, splitting his thumb open Tho he finished the job.
As a comparason to the Stihl 94, it is a bit heavier, although I am quite happy with the weight. The makita sounds faster.
It cuts the thick stuff, the power is there, no problem with that. The soft start ramp to the power, I percieve as being slow and was irritating.
We were doing a 3ft reduction on a tall privet hedge, some cuts 20-25mm I would guess.
The blades are sharp. After 30 minutes use they show some marking but I guess its expected. The blade adjustment is sloppy and one set in position, it can move a reasonable amount. I'll inspect if I can tighten this up.
Out of the box, one has to screw on the handle. I found the handle was rotating where the other part was loose. Needs a bit if adjustment.
The battery protector is inadequate. If you stand the tool by it, bends, its not very strong. It only protects one side and the other is very open to getting smashed. I will need to make or have printed some additional protection.
I’ve had the handle issue, had to tighten it up a few times but often I just have to work around it when it starts moving. Becomes a real issue with the extension in place, it’s a work out with the arms then and a loose handle makes it harder.
Soft start doesn’t bother me much, not like on the Jigsaw they make. Battery protection hasn’t been an issue for me yet, I often stand it on the bar and it’s had a few knocks no problem.
The XGT promotion has been accepted, they say it will be in the post within 35 days.
The LXT however, is a nope, and it will be going back to Amazon - quite dissapointed it wouldnt run on clone batteries, so I shall not get a chance to try it.
Im considering the short hedger, UH004G or UH006G, both seem very similar specs, 006 having wider teeth for "rough cut". They are both 3.7kg plus battery, my BL4050F's are 1.3kg, so 5kg total. The promo battery is 1kg and Im tempted to get a BL4025, 0.7kg battery.
Expensive though, £260.
Stihl hs45 would be the common professional option. Weight around 5kg fueled.
The UH006 hedger is great, very light and powerful. Cuts everything a still petrol would, feels half the weight.
With the uh006 I am up to £1430 now
Looking at drills, theres a HP001 combi or DF001 without hammer. Without, may be more accurate for metal work? Similar price.
A bad idea, impressive that it can manage an auger bit.
I also want the top handle saw to replace my 20T but it looks very under powered, similar to the 2511, and I will not be replacing that!
Ordered from CEF in shop. They were showing one in stock but a mistake. Annoyingly the shop delivery is supposted to be peasant service, so it may not be available until next week. Online is said to be next day, but wanted to use up some cash..
Have been playing with the drill, very impressed so far. Slab of dry 2" birch. These cheapy toolstation bits are not great quality yet on high speed its half a second for a 20mm hole.
25mm on low speed is nearly as quick.
The other day I tried some steel, 10mm drill was like a knife through butter. The large step drill, 20mm and 15mm at the same time, plenty of power there.
I should have tried bigger step holes on sheet. This is supposed to have an anti kickback accelerometer in the handle, to stop it breaking your wrist if it catches.
Have a prototype project brewing which will need lots of holes in alu, cant wait to start it, but more design to do.
