How much do you save on knockoff batteries compared to buying the real thing?
(It's quite a clever system, there's a microprocessor inside the battery housing which not only turns your battery pack into a doorstop, it contains the firmware required to make it work and once that firmware is lost from flash ram, you can't ever use that pack again. The firmware is maintained only by the presence of battery power so they are essentially self destructive items!)
Interested as I also have a dead makita 18v battery. Is it not possible to take the battery apart, find the dead cells and replace with new cells?
My dead battery looks like it's screwed together but so far I havn't got round to unscrewing for inspection.
Mine are dewalt. Think a lot of the wizardry is in the tool.View attachment 184334
Theres a circuit board in the official ones missing from the knockoff, possibly something to do with temperature sensing.
Couldn't get the cells out the bottom half of the clamshell to have a deeper look, maybe if I tried a bit harder but I was being real ginger careful to not break my shiny new toys.
