Makita GD0600 Die Grinder Reviews Sought

As per the title really, does anyone have or had one and what did you make of it? Would you have another/recommend?

I'm looking at one in 240V disguise for hobby use, mainly cleaning up mild steel welds. I'll be using decent carbide burrs, Garryson or similar.

Hi eschen ive got one.
110v it hasnt got any adjustment so runs flat out. To be honest when i can i use a cordless drill for the speed control. It gets your hands tingling so dont use it for too long. It is better than our air die grinder though.

Thanks JR; that's sort of what I felt about it as well. You can see it's not a top end model but is it enough better than the £25 copy to justify its three times price.

Think I'll give it a miss this time.

Probably not much help to you but I have the 750w variable speed version. I have it for quite a few years and have used it a lot for those flap wheels for dressing stainless steel. It does tend to run quite hot in the summer - I tend to leave it to cool down while I take a break. When I am using it it is for a production run so it is heavily used. As it happens, I checked the brushes the other day and they are still fine. I also have the Metabo version - the performance is very similar.

Probably not a lot of help either, but I bought two of the Bosch versions. I mounted them in a machine to cut T slots in timber. Up to now they have cut at least 30,000 metres of hardwood with no trouble. When they have not been doing that job I have useed them in the workshop and they have been superb.

No guys that's helpful as well. It's just not a good enough example for the money is my gut feeling.

Which Bosch did you have Ton-Up?

If this is the electric die grinder (not the air powered one) we bought one for the same job - taking down welds, on our car restoration project. To be honest we haven't used it as much as expected. It is a ferocious bit of kit, quite heavy, but it does remove metal very quickly. There are quite a few threads about die grinders, including mine, if you want more reviews.

The thing that has had more use than anything has been our Black and Decker powerfile, thin belt sander - about £40. It doesn't remove material as quickly but it is used for both paint and rust removal and dressing down welds. Of course, as your welds get better you don't produce mountainous welds anymore anyway. If I were starting again, I would buy the B and D powerfile from the outset and skip the die grinder altogether.
