Makita dual charger not working

Hi peeps,
Not sure if this is ok but i need help fixing my makita twin charger i know there are a few wizards out there when it comes to electronics, one side works ok but the other side is not working i have power from the supply to the circuit board there is a slow blow fuse this has no continuity so i think its blown i did rest a 3amp house fuse on top of the 4amp slow blow fuse and turned the power on and it went pop straight away View attachment 415524View attachment 415525View attachment 415526View attachment 415527

Maybe the built in obsolescence is kicking in gradually?
I bought a twin pack Makita drill and driver set, with four batteries, two chargers, in the US for silly money many years ago. Six years later all four batteries decided to quit within a week of each other.
Checking around on US forums I was told they are programmed to only last a certain amount of years. They're so complex inside, for a battery, that it doesn't surprise me.

I've found Wickes batteries nearly fit, well enough to do the job anyway. I call them my Wickita tools. The Makita drill and driver still work excellently, just the Wickes batteries fall out every now and again.

The various trading standard bodies would be on them like a ton of bricks worldwide.

But those are old enough not to have the shutdown pcb fitted to them.

Like they are with Apple, as it purposefully programs it's iPhones to get slower after a couple of years......

So what we're saying is, Makita is definately doing this because someone on a US forum said so, but the ones old enough to magically be programmed to break haven't because they're too old to have been programmed to do that, and the ones young enough that they have been are too young to have done it yet. So none of them have broken but the evidence is "Trust me, bro"

And that's definately happening because a completely unrelated company deliberately updated firmware on an unrelated device for very valid technical reasons (ask Google Pixel 1,2,3 owners what happens when that generation of batteries gets old and they cant supply enough peak current when there's a high demand current draw from the processor - I'll give you a hint, processors are digital, they don't like it, your phone instantly turns off when all the 1's turn out to be 0's. That gets annoying fast when your phone randomly shuts down no matter the battery charge level).
A process that is well documented for Apple, well talked about and documented across both phone and technical forums, and subject to several investigations globally and correction orders in the cases it was determined that user should have that choice.
You see the massive gulf of difference there? Battery control electronics are incredibly simple in terms of what most electronics guys diagnose and repair these days (you should see what we do with GPU repairs...), if it was there someone would have documented it clearly already and there'd be a workaround or chinese boards flooding the market to fix it.

With the amount of Makita battery and charger fires lately I'd bin the blxxdy thing and buy something decent!

I just get sick of reading nonsense with no basis in fact around here lately.

The only ones on here I've seen have been chinese copy chargers and chinese clone batteries. I don't think that's a makita issue...
Lithium battery packs have tremendous amounts of energy in them, trusting clone stuff with no QC to handle the equivelant of a small bomb on your kitchen side ha always been a no from me...

Not always my incident was all genuine Makita!
I have seen a Dewalt one do the same about 6 years ago, on site with plenty of people around fortunately!
But you would like to hope that well known manufacturers have put the best protection on their batteries and chargers to minimize the risk of things going badly wrong!

There was another one yesterday but not sure yet if it was a fake or genuine ...
