Makita and Fakita grinders

Generally the Fakita tools and batteries I've got are good. The die grinder has been perfect, so I was looking to get a proper 5" cordless brushless angle grinder. I have a mains one, cable is a pain. I have a cordless Parkside but it cuts out and is rubbish.

Looking at Makita and Fakita, theres a lot of choice. Perhaps they all have the same motor inside? I am sure the genuine ones are better but by how much?

Amazon has no decent reviews of them. What are the differences in the genuine Makita models?

I did notice the X lock type, perhaps allows a deeper cut? Otherwise I'll stick to standard type as I have plenty of discs.

This one has a speed display, not sure if thats useful. Several reviews say it breaks with an error code, I suppose without the display it cant do that..

It's been abused as a tradesman's tool, used for everything from sharpening a pencil to cutting cast soil stacks and rsjs

452Z has brushes, 11000 rpm. 504Z is brushless, 8500rpm. 517Z is variable speed 8500rpm max. 513Z is variable speed 8500rpm max.

On Makita UK, you can select the four models and it will make a table aligning and comparing features.

On 0.9mm stainless, which I cut a lot, the lower top speed is noticable. A corded version running at 12000rpm cuts faster (linear metres per unit time)

I have the DGA513Z which is brushless, hobby user but to me nicely balanced and I like the variable speed. It does go through the batteries far quicker than any of my other makita tools.

Would like a second one but not before the very cheap others fail.

Also have the 513z and i like it.
It is handy to be able to turn down the speed for cleaning and sanding discs.
Doesn't have the ultimate grunt of a corded, but can't expect that of it

Thanks for the replies. I gave up looking and ordered this to start with, mostly as it quotes a higher power than other Fakita's and its the same brand as the die grinder.

I note that it appears to have a more compact nose than the other fakes or genuines.

It will hopefully arrive early morning as I think I will be needing it today.

It does go through the batteries far quicker than any of my other makita tools.

Try a planer. They eat batteries.

Makita coffee machine uses 2 batteries to make one cup, however on a freezing cold site it's almost worth it

I always remember a team of plasterers I used to see on a new build job, first thing out the van was the generator, followed by 2 kettles, both with 16a commando plugs so they could go straight into the generator

Mine is a DGA463, from 2019

Never used the variable speed, but it has it, stood up to abuse on site, on cars and generally

Guard currently removed for a reason that escapes me, I think it was the final few mm of a cut, no idea on cost, I spent £2500 on a full setup

That depends if its any good. So far it looks promising, havent attached a battery yet. Early delivery was a big factor in the choice.

What Ah batteries? Maybe they are knackered as mine will make 2cups with 1 4ah battery. That’s with water at about 5deg. Not brilliant efficiency but not too bad. I think their kettle gives better efficiency.

5ah, mine was the OG version and was a free gift, brand new batteries

Its long since been skipped
