Making soda

Hi all
Maybe my question is a little odd - how can I make soda. since I have a co2 pub gas, I know that all that has to be done is blend it into plain water. I took a 6mm pipe, long almost as the bottle hight, attached it to a 1.5l bottle cap, connected a hose to it which was connected to the regulator output and had the gas flow into the water. it seemed OK but the result was a very "flat" soda. any ideas?

I must ask though, why would you want too, just buy it in the supermarket

The water container has to be sealed and able to stand pressure and a short sharp burst of gas under high pressure is the way to do it. Beer spheres work like this for home brew.

My sis works in a bottling plant, she tells me the co2 is put into the empty bottle first then the flavoured liquid is added and cap screwed on last.
She said cos co2 is heavier than air it just lounges in the bottom of the bottle.

Maybe it's the time the mix is sealed in the bottle before it's used that helps "strenghthen" the fizz

Hows about putting a half teaspoon of sugar in a two litre PET bottle, along with a pinch of yeast, then fill with water and leave in the airing cupboard?

If you havn't, you should.

Even simpler, lob in a teaspoon of Andrews, and put the lid on. If it doesn't fizz enough, add some lemon juice

Nobody on here knows where you come from, and besides everyone is welcome. More than likely you have interperated the comment in a way it was not intended - Chunko likes to make these these things to play with in his back yard.

re my comment ''I understand where you are coming from'' I was referring to the idea of making something out of something else, a fine aim.
I love all untoward uses of technology especially if it includes avoiding unnecessary expenditure of cash.

"Know where you're coming from" is an expression used in the Uk to mean the other person undersatnds your thought process to reach the conclusions that you have.

There's nothing sinister in it.

Cool the liquid down, then bubble the CO2 through it. I think we used to use about 4deg C, you can go lower if you use something in with the water i.e. cola concentrate. This will need to be done under pressure (sorry I can not remember how much). It would be usual to recirculate the gas above the liquid in the pressure vessel to bubble through it again.
