Hi folks. I'm in the mood to make myself a rear crossmember for my Land Rover Series 2a 109" PU. I seek blueprints, CAD or DXF Files for the details to make it. I got access to laser cutting machine and hydraulic sheet bending machine. Anyone did that and want to share drawings, file or other useful info? Thanks in advantage from Sweden.

What I did was take the effort to measure and reverse engineer one then improve.

I've bodged a few, if going from scratch I'd blag a bit of hefty channel or perhaps box section and make a straight military type without the angles at each end.
As above of course you can get aftermarket ready mades, from Paddock's and the like.

Also, never be afraid to re-design something to improve on the original (unless 'originality' is the goal of a concours restoration)........I once used a lump of 5mm angle for a 110 x member ( not a single mud/rust trap in sight)...I am an absolute heathen though

I suspect it's a case of it was easier at the time to fab and weld up the way they did it rather than invest in the large and heavy tooling required to make channel chassis.

Land Rover were an early adopter of welding robots, they used the ASEA Irb6 launched in 1974 to weld up the chassis.

The original chassis up until the mid seventies was a welded box for this exact reason. It then went to pressed sections but still a box.
I’m guessing it was to get torsional stability
Strength in a smaller size
Keep material thickness down therefore weight and cost.
By adding strength with double layers they created water traps and capillaries to ensure the thing rusted therefore creating more employment in chassis repair
Discovery 1 and range over chassis faired much better because it didn’t have that awful crossmember

Yet Discovery 2 was renowned for rotting out the rear of the chassis. Poor quality steel, lack of paint etc. If only they'd galvanised all the chassis we'd have a lot more old landrovers still on the road.

I was looking for a 2 or 3 year old Disco 2 in the early 2000's, I got the Land rover dealers to put the ones I was interested in up on the ramp to see the underside. I must have looked at a dozen to find one that did not have significant surface rust on the chassis, I bought it and sprayed it with cavity wax and Dinitrol, it was still on the road when I last checked.

.....or indeed my choice for longevity for a little more £ would be a heavier 3mm galvanised version .....Just buy one £129

You did make a lovely replacement...! I saw one in the flesh once.
nope ,, some of them dont even have the anti crush tubes in them ,,, not sure if they are still about , they were tragic , nothing fit , nothing lined up and the holes were the wrong size too ,,,, [ at least they got that the same as originals] but when you built one you couldnt tighten things up or they crushed like a pop can.
drilled and sleeved a couple , but they were grim ,,,

@Bappen69 I'm not sure whether they'd send them to you but I had a cross-member made by CLH Trailers years ago after Clive had shut-up shop doing them. Similar style to @pressbrake1's in that it was just a big C fabricated section with none of the water-traps and no extra holes apart from the necessary for the tow-bar.
Since buying their big HD CNC plasma cutter I think Mark now has a CAD file for the cross-member (mine was done by hand before they had the CNC).
