Hi guys, I'm hoping some of you can help here as I've hit that 'too much choice' stage of making a shopping list. I know this is a welding forum but it seems everyone has an interest in getting thier hands dirty and making things, so fibreglassing won't be a leap too far
OK, I've had a play with fibreglass before but only using the sort of kits you get halfrauds I'd like to make some fibreglass interior items for my car which will require making the item, using mdf and fibreglass/filler etc to use as a plug.
Then I want to make a mould of that and use it to make several copies.
From my research so far I've read that epoxy resin won't be needed so I'll be using polyester resin instead.
Now it gets to the information over-load stage:
What's the different betweel gelcoat and topcoat/flowcoat?
Can normal gelcoat be sanded or do you really need the 'sandable' gelcoat?
Do you need release agents and wax? or one or the other? and in what order?
I'm sure I'll think of more, and if any of you have suggestions for things I may not have thought of then please let me know.
Thanks
Tom
